Waley is a New York–based commercial and video director whose offbeat sense of humor traces back to his wonderfully eccentric Chinese immigrant parents. His work is driven by a love of highlighting quirky, distinctive personalities in relatable settings, elevated through stylized art direction and striking cinematography.

He has directed projects for brands such as McDonald’s and Iberia Airlines, as well as a Phoebe Bridgers and Conor Oberst–produced album. His portfolio also includes collaborations with fashion brands across New York and Korea, and music projects with Asian artists including ALLY, Crowd Lu, and TikTok-viral Korean artist The Black Skirts (검정치마).

Waley’s work has been featured on platforms and festivals including shots.net, Berlin Commercial Festival, Aesthetica Short Film Festival, Busan International Film Festival, and NOWNESS Asia. He has also received accolades such as Best Cinematography at the LA Fashion Festival.

In his free time, he likes to read, go to the movies alone, and practice silly goosery.
